Roses for Mother’s Day

With a simple white background these heat embossed die cuts create a pretty Mother’s Day card. The Stippled Roses stamp set is perfect for Mother’s Day card and the matching dies make it easy to add crisp cut outs.

What is Stippling, you might ask? Here is a definition:

Stippling is a drawing technique in which areas of light and shadow are created using nothing but dots. The basic idea is simple: For darker areas, you apply a greater number of dots and keep them close together. Then for progressively lighter areas, use fewer dots and space them farther apart.

I’ve entered this card in the #DOswts431 Challenge, which is hosted by Dawn Olchefski. The STARS are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who have joined under Dawn. If you join my Hollywood Stamping Chicks team, you are automatically a part of the DOstamperSTARS team as well.

My mom has been gone for several years but I really enjoy making Mother’s Day cards and thinking of her. She was a card maker as well and loved receiving hand made cards. Now I make them to sell or to send to my daughter and daughter-in-law’s.

The large rose image is embossed with gold embossing powder while the leaves are embossed in both silver and gold. I really like how using the different cardstock colors and different embossing powders adds texture and dimension. The rose image is also popped up with dimensionals to make it stand out more.

Heat Embossing is always fun. It’s amazing to watch the powder melt although. Always remember to keep moving the heat tool and not get too close to the paper as it will singe or burn. Use VersaMark ink for best results and rub the paper before inking with an embossing buddy to remove static. This will help avoid having the powder stick in unwanted areas. A small paint brush can be used to brush off unwanted powder. Use a tray or a throw away paper plate to collect the unused powder after tapping it off the image.
