Graduation Cap Fun Fold Card

It’s that time of year when kids graduate from High School or College and head off into another era of their lives. Today’s card is a fun fold which ends up looking like a graduation cap.

The base has a couple of extra score lines to create the folds and the tips are cut off the top to make a square hat. I’ve create a Graduation Cap Card Video for you if you are a visual learner. A gold brad attaches the tassel to the card.

Here you can see the inside of the card. The measurements are as follows:

  • Base 4 1/4″ x 9 3/4″ scored at 5 1/2″
    • Measure and mark 2 1/8″ each direction from the score line and on both sides
    • Score between the marks creating an X across the original score line
    • Burnish all of the score lines and push the folds in so that the ‘hat’ sits on top.
    • To make the point of the hat, measure and mark to the middle of the top (2 1/8″) and cut down 2 1/8″ to the score line on each side to remove the corners.
  • White square 2 3/4″ for the inside of the hat (this will cover the brad forks on the inside of the card)
  • White piece 4″ x 5 1/4″ then mark at 2″ across the top and 2″ down along each side. Cut from the top mark to the side mark to remove the corners on each side. This will be the other inside piece and will be stamped on.

Tassels are not my forte so here is a video done by someone else that you might find useful to create a tassel for your cap. Mine was made with Baker’s Twine. Or, I’m sure that they are available to purchase premade.

Remember to finish off the envelope with a stamped image in the corner. Enjoy all those graduation parties!
