Shoji Door Card with Kintsugi Inspirations Designer Paper

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer. The mended veins become a celebration of imperfection. What a great reminder to celebrate our lives even after events may have shattered portions of them.

Cutting Dimensions:

  • Base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 2 1/8″ on each side
  • Black Frame 2 pieces 1 3/4″ x 5 1/4″
  • White 1 1/2″ x 5″

The card opens up to a greeting on a white oval with a black frame.

The vases and gold branch are added to the white panels first. Then the panels are cut into window panes. The first cut was in half the long way at 3/4″. Next, from the bottom a cut was made at 1 3/4, and then another at 1 3/4″ leaving a smaller pane at the top.

The door handles were created by punching just a bit of paper with an oval punch.
