Sea Turtles

Today I’m sharing five cards made using the One Sheet Wonder Technique using handmade designer paper. I do have to warn you that this technique is addicting! It was so fun starting with a fresh piece of paper and adding images and colors to create a pretty background for the Sea Turtles.

Sorry for the image quality! I snapped this photo on my work desk (lazy me) instead of in my photo booth.

This started with a full 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of Basic White cardstock. Then, starting with the largest image, the images were stamped in three rows across the paper. Some were stamped more than once before reinking. The Sea Turtle stamp set is a Reversible Photopolymer set, which means that they are created so that both sides of the stamp can be used. You can actually do this with ANY photopolymer set but some are actually designed so that the backside of the stamp is a usable image. The colors used on this piece are: Lost Lagoon, Coastal Cabana, Pool Party, Night of Navy, Smoky Slate, Crumb Cake, and Pear Pizzazz.

The created backgrounds were cut into the following sized pieces: 4 at 3 3/4″ x 5″, 2 at 1″ x 5″ and 1 strip 1″ x 8 1/2″ (I lost the 1″ x 8 1/2″ strip on my desk so didn’t finish a card with it, but found it again and will create another card and share later).

The Sea Turtle stamp set doesn’t include any greetings so I pulled in greetings from several different sets to show how versatile this fun Sea Turtle set is! I’ve also used different card base colors and some matting layers as well. This greeting is from the Paradise Palms stamp set and this turtle is done in Soft Succulent and Parakeet Party inks.

The turtles were all stamped on Shimmery White Paper using a water spritzer. First the detailed side of the stamp was inked with one color then spritzed with water and stamped. Then the stamp was cleaned and flipped over on the block and the second color was applied to to the stamp, again spritzed with water and stamped over the first image. This guy got a little bit too watery for my taste so I cut back on the water for the others. It’s all preference and what you look you want. Experiment with it and see what YOU like. There isn’t a die for the Sea Turtle set so these guys were all fussy cut, sorry ladies!

This card starts with a Pool Party base and a Crumb Cake matte that is 5 1/4″ x 4″. The greeting is from the Charing Sentiments stamp set which has a coordinating die set, the Sentiment Silhouettes Dies. A piece of the Vellum Layering Designs was added under the greeting and two wraps of Linen Thread were added. This turtle was done with Mossy Meadow and Pear Pizzazz ink colors.

For this card a Coastal Cabana base with a side fold was used. A narrow matte of Night of Navy was added (5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″). The greeting is stamped in Lost Lagoon on a narrow strip of Coastal Cabana. The greeting is from the Through it Together stamp set. This turtle was only stamped with the detailed stamp using Mossy Meadow ink.

I had to play with some little turtles as well! These two are done with the Mossy Meadow and Pear Pizzazz ink colors. The greeting is from the Nature’s Harvest stamp set. The base is Pool Party.

My final card uses the 1″ strips layered onto a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Coastal Cabana paper which was embossed with the Stripes (Stripes & Splatters set) Embossing Folder. The two outside turtles are done in just Mossy Meadow and the inside one is Soft Succulent and Parakeet Party inks. The greeting is from the Sunny Splash stamp set.

Some of the insides are decorated and have greetings, while others were left blank.

I hope that you give this technique a try, it is really fun!
