Flip Up Birthday Greeting

This fun interactive card has a hidden greeting which is revealed by pulling on the tab at the bottom.

The card base is a flat 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Lemon Lolly card stock but if desired a folded 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ card base could be used as well.

When the tab is pulled the greeting appears, like magic! Neat, right? This greeting from the Charming Sentiments stamp set, is stamped on Basic White paper, and is die cut with the Sentiment Silhouettes Dies. As well as the cool candles and other elements, the Sentiment Silhouettes Dies cut out all of the words from the Charming Sentiments stamp set.

Here are the paper dimensions for creating this card:

  • Lemon Lolly base 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
  • Bright & Beautiful DSP 3 3/4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Basic Black 2 1/2″ x 4″
  • Bright & Beautiful DSP 2 1/4″ x 3 3/4″
  • Basic Black 1 11/16″ x 3 11/16″
  • Bright & Beautiful DSP 1 1/2″ x 4″
  • Scraps of colored paper for the candles and flames
  • Basic White Mechanism 1″ x 5 3/8″ scored at 3 1/2″ and 4″

The Sentiment Silhouettes Dies were used to cut out the candles and to create the slot for the mechanism to slide through the DSP layer. This die set is retiring so I suggest snapping it up ASAP. I’m sure that creative minds could make this with other tools but darn the Sentiment Silhouettes Dies made this really easy. I’ve added some Ombre gems to the candle flames.

Here is an alternate version that was made using the More Dazzle Specialty Paper in the background. The stiffer paper worked great for the pull mechanism but was harder to adhere the pieces to. I switched up the colors on the candle layers for this card.

The little ‘pull’ greeting is from the Hooray for Surprises stamp set, another great purchase if you like making interactive greeting cards.

I think the best way to tell you how to put this card together is to show you so please watch my Flip Up Birthday Card Tutorial for directions.

Tips:

Make sure that your candles are pointing up! The mechanism fold gets adhered to the top of the candle piece.

Center the slot visually or measure and make tick marks 2″ in from each side and 1 3/4″ down from the top.

Be patient when gluing if using liquid glue and don’t pull the tab until the glue is dry, lol.

Be sure to leave the area where the mechanism slides free of adhesive.

To round the corners of the pull tab, use a circle punch or corner rounder. I used the 2 3/8″ Circle Punch because it’s the one that I had most handy.

Hope you enjoyed this fun card. I’m thinking one of these beauties is going to my granddaughter later this month. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by at the Roost.
