Point Blanket Campology Card

It’s been a while since I participated in one of The Card Concept Challenges, but when I saw the inspiration photo for #TCC157 with the point blanket, I just had to play along. I actually created four cards, which I will be sharing with you over the next week, but today’s card was my favorite.

Point Blanket Campology

There were lots of cool items in the inspiration photo but I just had to use the point blanket. I’ve had mine for 40 years. I purchased it on the way home from a trip to Alaska. I had gone with friends, back in my sled dog racing days. It was an awesome trip. Back then much of the Alaskan highway wasn’t even blacktopped! My point blanket was a major purchase for me at the time. It’s a bit dog eared but I still love it!

The Card Concept Inspiration Photo

My point blanket resides on our spare bed and still has it’s authenticity label.

So, I was a bit unique even as an 18 year old. What 18 year old gets excited about a wool blanket, right?

This card is done in a Clean and Layered style. It has a clean feel and multiple layers to create dimension.

The card starts with a Thick Basic White Base that is 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″. The front is covered with a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of wood look designer paper from the In Good Taste paper pack. There is a 4 1/8″ x 4 1/8″ matt layer of Early Espresso behind the blanket. The blanket starts with a 4″ x 4″ piece of very vanilla and then the the 1/2″ x 4″ colored stripes are added. They are Night of Navy, Daffodil Delight, Real Red and Garden Green. All of the stamping is done with Basic Gray ink. The lantern is taken directly from the inspiration photo but I didn’t have a minnow bucket stamp so substituted a coffee pot instead. The top of the coffee pot is fussy cut, while the rest of the very vanilla strip that it is stamped on was cut straight with a trimmer. The coffee pot layer is popped up with dimensionals.

I really enjoyed making this card, and all of the great memories that it revived. What do you see in the inspiration photo that inspires memories for you? I hope that you have some fun creating a card with The Card Concept inspiration photo too!

  1. Love your write-up about the background of the card, Robyn! So interesting that at 18 yrs. old you bought this blanket. I had not idea there was a name for them! But your card is a perfect representation of the blanket and the feel of the inspiration photo and we appreciate you playing along with up at The Card Concept!
