Long Summer Days

I hope that you have been able to enjoy some of these long summer days. The weather lady noted that yesterday was the last sunset after 9 pm here in Minnesota. So now they are getting shorter and we really need to enjoy this gorgeous evenings! Although I don’t live on the ocean I do like hunting sea shells when I’m at an ocean beach. I really don’t have any use for all the bits and pieces that I pick up, it’s just the thrill of the hunt, I guess.

The soft greens and blues were calling to me from the inspiration photo. I wanted to play with embossing and coloring on a window sheet so I decided to try a new technique for this card.

There were so many choices in this inspiration photo! Beads, star fish, sea horses, whales, the ships wheel, the pretty blue, green and white colors, it was hard to choose. I’m actually a bit unsure of which style my card falls under, because of the Corner Flip Technique but I think it still falls under the Clean and Layered style.

Clean and Layered Style

clean lines
lots of layers
designer papers/embossing
embellishments/accents
clean and fresh looking
some coloured images at times
white space

The window sheet and basic white layer are 2 1/2″ squares and are embossed with the Sea Shell embossing folder. The window sheet is colored with Stampin’ Blends on the back side and adhered to the basic white layer with Stampin’ Seal + around the edges. My original plan was to create a frame to layer over the window sheet to hide the adhesive but I thought it looked okay, so didn’t add the frame. There is a 2 3/4″ square Matt of the retired Sand & Sea designer paper behind it, as well as on the inside of the card.

If you don’t have the Sand & Sea DSP the Bloom Where You’re Planted has a nice speckled gray design, or the Beauty of the Earth DSP has a nice blue as well.

The tone on tone Soft Sea Foam image on the background of the front of the card is from the Natural Images Hostess Reward set. When your order or party reaches $150 you earn Hostess Rewards and can redeem them for any item in the catalog including the Hostess only items.

The Early Espresso Suede Ribbon was cut to 4 1/4″ and adhered with the Stampin’ Seal +. If you want direction for the Corner Flip Technique I have not one but TWO videos explaining it. The Prince Charming Corner Flip Card video was done for a Splitcoast Stampers tutorial and the Pansy Petals Corner Flip Card video was an early version.
