Have you noticed the gorgeous poppies on the cover of the new Stampin’ Up! Mini Catalog? There’s a whole suite of gorgeous poppy themed products.

When I cut out one of the poppy outlines with the die from the Poppy Moments Die set, it made me think of some of the pretty wooden artwork that I’ve seen called Intarsia, where the artist cuts out different pieces of wood and places them together to create a picture. I decided to try the technique with the Poppy Moments Die set.

I started by cutting 2 poppies of different colors and separating out the “scrap” pieces from between the outlines. Then, I replaced the “scrap” pieces but in the opposite colored outlines. It gives the poppies a different look than when layering the outlines over the base layer.

The background is created by using stamps from the Painted Poppies stamp set and randomly stamping them with white ink and old olive.
