After yesterday’s woven background card, I thought that I would share another way to use paper weaving on today’s card. This method is a bit more involved, but creates a more precise, tight weave for a little different look.

This sweet girl is hopping by with a heartfelt note for just about any occasion. The unique basketweave background was created by starting with a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Daffodil Delight card stock and slicing it every 1/4″. It’s actually really easy to do with the Stampin’ Up! Trimmer. The clear ruler on the hold down bar makes it easy to measure while cutting in the middle of a piece of paper. My only tip is to make sure that you hold the bar tight one way or the other, because it does have just a bit of play and will make the edge of your cuts uneven. Then I cut a bunch of 1/4″ strips from the True Love Designer Series Paper. As I wove the strips, I kept pushing them tight to one side. The last two strips did get a bit tricky to weave. But there is a trick that I learned working in a Graphics Department: Cut a narrow strip of light cardboard and layer it with your paper and weave both, then pull out the cardboard after complete. The stiff cardboard is easier to push through than the lighter designer paper.

In the end, I decided to add a frame of Poppy Parade over the woven layer to cover my uneven edges (that’s how I learned that I needed to hold the trimmer bar tight). I used two Stitched Rectangle Dies Nested together to create the frame.

The Kangaroo is colored with Stampin’ Blends. I started with a Dark Crumb Cake outline around the whole body then filled it in with Light Crumb Cake. It wasn’t quite the color I wanted, so I went over the entire Kangaroo with Light Cinnamon Cider to get the color just right. The chest is colored in with Ivory, but it doesn’t show much under the envelope, lol. I added Black for his nose, and the tips of his feet. I also colored the heart in with Poppy Parade.
