Amaryllis Abloom

Today’s card uses the Joseph’s Coat Technique. For the Joseph’s Coat Technique first cover a piece of Basic White cardstock with color using Blending Brushes, Sponge Daubers, or a Sponge. This card uses Balmy Blue, Flirty Flamingo, Real Red and Granny Apple Green. Think bold colors when applying the ink, unless you want a soft look! Let dry, rub an embossing buddy over the entire paper. Next, using Versamark ink stamp the background stamp with the x’s all over the paper. It’s a bit hard to see where clear Versamark ink is, but a bit of overlap or missing spots is okay too. Sprinkle on Clear Embossing Powder and heat until melted. Finally, (this is the scary, messy part!) rub a Tuxedo Black ink pad across the paper until everything is a nice solid black, except for the embossed lines. Use a paper towel to rub off any ink that lingers on the embossed lines.

Watch my Joseph’s Coat Kissing Technique for a similar technique but with an added twist!

My first try with the Amaryllis Abloom and the Joseph’s Coat Technique ended up in the trash. The details on the flower just ended up looking goopy, but I really loved the x’s on the background, so back to the drawing board for take two!

All of the stamping is done on the In Color Shimmer Vellum and the flower and leaves are fussy cut. I love this greeting from the Amaryllis Abloom stamp set!! I have some friends who are Muslin and don’t celebrate Christmas, but I can’t leave them out when I’m sending Christmas cards and this is a perfect greeting for those cards!

To adhere the shimmer paper to the card I placed a bit of liquid glue onto my Silicone Mat and added what I thought was water from my spritzer, but smelled a bit like alcohol. So far, it seems to be working. I used a piece of sponge to daub the thinned glue onto the backs of the Shimmer paper and adhered to the card.

Paper Dimensions:

Basic Black Card Base 4 1/4″ x 11″ Scored at 5 1/2″

Flirty Flamingo 3″ x 5 1/4″

Basic White 2 3/4″ x 5 1/4″

Small pieces of the Shimmer Vellum in Polished Pink and Soft Succulent

Basic White 4″ x 5 1/4″ for inside liner

Before adhering the layers to the base, use the x’s stamp and the VersaMark ink to stamp around all of the edges of the card front to give some subtle texture and pull the x’s on the design and the card front together.
