Paradise Palms

Today I’m featuring two cards created using the Moonlighting Technique with the Paradise Palms stamp set from the 2022 January to June Mini Stampin’ Up! catalog. This is the first entry for the DOstamperSTARS February Chinese New Year Challenge. I liked the technique so much that I decided to make two cards. One a moonlight scene and the other a sunrise.

I’m so excited and chose to use three palm trees because we just had our offer on a lake home in Florida accepted! Our new bit of paradise has 3 huge palm trees off of the deck between the house and the lake. They are a bit farther apart than these three, but I liked the clumped together look for my moonlight card.

To create the moon, die cut or punch a circle from a post it note, I used a sticky all over post it note for this card. Then use Blending Brushes, Sponge Daubers or a Sponge to add color to the entire paper. This card starts with Balmy Blue, working from the circle out, then the next color is Bermuda Bay, with the outside edges being done with Night of Navy. It will never cease to amaze me how it looks like there is no color on the paper until the mask is peeled off to reveal the totally white moon. The tree trunks are stamped with Gray Granite and the leaves are done with Mossy Meadow, then they are all die cut with the matching Palm Dies. The main image is created on a 3 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Basic White.

The inside features more palms and a greeting, also from the Paradise Palms stamp set. This palms stamp is one stamp with the three palms together. To get the multiple colors (trunk & leaves) I first inked the bottom of the stamp with Gray Granite, then came back with a stampin’ spot ink pad and inked the leaves with Mossy Meadow.

The current owners of future Florida Roost told me how gorgeous the sunrise and sunset views are from the deck, so I had to make a sunrise view card as well. This card uses Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay inks for the background. The Basic White piece on this card is 3 3/4″ x 5″ with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ matte of Calypso Coral.

For the inside of this card, I added a palm tree die cut, done with Mossy Meadow cardstock and left it without any inside greeting.
