Yesterday I attended a beautiful celebration of life ceremony for my neighbor’s mother. It was very informal with people sharing memories of Jean, reading poetry and bible verses. One of the grandchildren created a memory tree with pretty stamped ornaments and handwritten memories of her grandmother. After the ceremony Jean provided one last meal for her family and friends at a local restaurant.
So, while my mind was on celebrating the end of a life well lived, I thought that I would make a sympathy card for today. I pulled out my monthly STARS Challenge and found a challenge that called for using Balmy Blue, Cajun Craze, and Mango Melody. I thought that the Mango and Cajun would make a nice fall sympathy card but was a bit puzzled on how to work in the Balmy Blue. Here is what I came up with.

I chose the Mountain Air stamp set and used the Balmy Blue ink to make the mountains in the distance. The Mountain Air set is one where you can use both sides of the photopolymer stamps to create images. I first stamped the detailed side of the mountains with full strength Balmy Blue, cleaned the stamp, removed it from the block and reapplied it the opposite way. The next time, I inked it again with the Balmy Blue ink, stamped off on my grid paper and then stamped this solid image above the first mountains. I repeated this step and stamped right over the detailed mountains to give them some color too.

The trees are inked with Mango Melody and stamped at the base of the mountains. I like how some of the tips of the trees overlapped with the mountains and took on a green hue.

Next, I die cut a tree from the Majestic Mountains Die set in Mango Melody paper. This tree reminds me of the Tamarac forest that was beside my house where I grew up. In the summer it was a magical moss covered swap where I always imagined fairies lived. In fall it would turn into this glowing golden forest. It was so pretty when the sun hit the trees, I was sure that the fairies sprinkled gold pixie dust on them. The greeting from the Peaceful Moments stamp set is stamped with Cajun Craze ink and die cut with one of the dies from the Painted Labels Die set.

The greeting on the inside is also from the Peaceful Moments stamp set and is done in Cajun Craze ink. The trees are done in Mango Melody ink and were stamped off on the grid paper first to give a lighter image.
I hope that you enjoyed this card and it inspires you to take some part of it and create your own card.
