Layout Challenge #DOswts362

Today’s Challenge is a layout one. For some reason I really struggled with this layout. I think it was because I was preparing for my new catalog Open House that took place this morning.

This is my final version of the card. I was a bit disappointed that I didn’t get the glue spread evenly on the vellum and so the glue lines can be seen, but I just didn’t have the time to create another card, so I’m sharing this less than perfect card.

Here is a look at the actual layout design for the challenge.

I chose to start with a 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ Balmy Blue card base scored at 4 1/4″. My next layer is Misty Moonlight card stock and has been stenciled with one of the Basic Stencils using Misty Moonlight ink. The Blending Brushes make stenciling fast and easy, love those new Blending Brushes!

For the next layer, rather than using a piece of designer paper or card stock, I decided to use part of the Seashell die, cut and then embossed with the matching Seashell Embossing folder. I’ve used the Pearlized Speciality Paper and rubbed the almost dry Blending Brush with the Misty Moonlight ink over it.

My next layer is vellum and this is where I had a bit of a problem. I cut the vellum 2″ x 4″ and then decided to tear the edges. I would suggest cutting about 1/4″ bigger to make tearing easier. I used Liquid Multipurpose Glue to adhere all of these layers and should have thinned the glue with a bit of water and applied with a sponge for this vellum layer but I got lazy and applied it full strength.

This is a photo before I added the gems and additional die cut.

For the final layers, I used Sahara Sand card stock for both the Sand Dollar and the greeting, and Sahara Sand ink. I’ve added a Stitched With Whimsy die cut around the greeting and then tore around the edges. I did add another sprig of the seaweed and some of the Blue Gems to hid my glue marks. The pretty Sand Dollar was the easy part, just a quick turn of the handle on the Cut and Emboss Machine and a die from the Seashell Dies set.

I hope that something from this card will inspire you.
