It’s time for the #DOswts395 Technique Challenge. This time the challenge is to create a card with a basket or weaving technique. I’ve chosen the Braided Edge Technique combined with the cute raccoon from the Sweet & Wild stamp set for my entry.

Every time I see a raccoon, I think of my son Corey as a young boy. He so loved raccoons! Both he and the raccoons were really cute, but I never liked them as much as he did because they like to EAT my chickens.

The raccoon was first stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock then colored with Stampin’ Blend Markers. The darker areas were colored with Dark Gray Granite and the lighter areas with the Light Gray Granite marker. Next, a light Crumb Cake marker was used on the top of the head and back to give a him a bit more of a brownish color. The grass is Light Old Olive. Then the raccoon was cut out with a Tree Ring Die and embossed with the matching Tree Ring Embossing Folder. The background was way too white, so it was colored with the Light Naturals Medium marker to make it look more like a log. I LOVE how it turned out!

The card base is an 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ piece of Shaded Spruce scored at 4 1/4″ with a 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Pretty Prints Designer Paper adhered well with liquid glue to the front. To cut the edge, a Braided Edge Template was paper clipped to the fold and then cut on the lines with a scissors. The bottom flap was removed and adhered to the top. To create the braid, starting with the third tab from the bottom, fold the tab down and tuck under the tab below it. Do this with every other tab.
If you would like the Braided Edge Template file please email me at rrasset@frontier.com.

Here is a view of the inside of the braid. A 2 3/4″ x 5″ piece of Sahara Sand was added to inside as well as a 1″ x 5″ strip of the Pretty Prints DSP.

I tried stamping the Biggest Wish greeting directly onto the DSP and also onto a piece of Crumb Cake and fussy cutting around the words. I actually liked both, but chose to use the Crumb Cake greetings.
